A marriage between two of our favorite skin treatments is here – PIXel8 RF Microneedling. Our skin changes significantly as we age. Texture, laxity, and pore size are just a few concerns many patients have regarding their aging skin. RF Microneedling combines bi-polar RF energy and microneedles to deliver precisely controlled RF heat energy evenly into the skin – tightening skin, reducing pore size, fading acne/traumatic scarring, and completely rejuvenating the skin.

RF Microneedling works by combining the resurfacing capability of microneedling with the skin-tightening results of fractionated radiofrequency. The treatment results in reduced appearance of wrinkles, increased collagen production and tighter, more lifted skin. Traditional microneedling treatments create small micro-wounds in the skin. By incorporating RF energy into the treatment, the skin is completely revitalized. The microneedle depth can range between 0.5 – 3.55mm and is completely customizable for each treatment, depending on the area being targeted.

What Do I Need to Do Before and After the Treatment?

At the beginning of your appointment, a topical lidocaine cream will be applied to the area being treated to reduce any possible discomfort. Your targeted area(s) will then be treated with the RF Microneedling device – a handheld piece that houses a group of needles. The microneedles deliver micro-punctures between 0.5 and 3.55mm into the skin while transporting radiofrequency energy into the skin. The combination of the microneedles and the RF heat energy work to stimulate collagen production. The topical anesthetic makes for a virtually painless procedure and most patients describe their experience as pleasant with an infrequent snap or pinprick sensation from the microneedles.

What Happens During My Pixel8 RF Microneedling Treatment?

While some minor results may be observed after one treatment, maximum results are seen with a series of at least three treatments, spaced four weeks apart. Noticeable and permanent results can be seen after approximately six weeks – the typical time frame for collagen renewal, with patients continuing to see results up to three months after their treatment.

What Do I Need to Do Before and After Procedure?

In preparation for your RF Microneedling appointment, avoid direct sun exposure and tanned skin, including self-tanners. Discontinue any supplements and blood-thinning medications that will increase the risk of bruising one week before your appointment (Aspirin, Vitamin E, fish oil supplements, ginkgo biloba). Patients with dental crowns, braces or metal dental implants may experience a heightened sensitivity to the treatment. After your RF Microneedling treatment, your skin will feel and look like a sunburn for 24 to 48 hours. You may experience slight scabbing from the microneedling itself and those will flake off naturally. Normal work and social activities can be resumed 24 hours after your treatment. Patients will be provided with a customized skincare regimen after their treatment to aid in healing.

Is this Treatment Safe? What are the Possible Side Effects?

In comparison to traditional and outdated laser treatments, RF Microneedling is extremely safe. The technology is effective for sensitive skin and dark skin tones due to its use of RF energy.
